Kia ora e hoa!
Ko Jono tōku ingoa. I’m a yogi, taoist, artist, music enthusiast and founder of Resonate. See links below to read a bit about my own journey, the birth of Resonate and what it’s all about.

I was that cliché quiet arty kid; highly attentive to the world around me, taking it all in. Growing up in the booming metropolis of Blenheim, I enjoyed the small things, yet often drifted elsewhere in my mind—dreaming big. If I wasn't playing backyard cricket with my older brothers, you'd find me drawing, painting or listening to music. I loved all things creative!
However, with a strong imagination and a sensitivity to external inputs; things got difficult as I grew older. Creativity started to get clouded behind a turbulent mind as imagination warped into internalisation. Anxiety progressively became the norm and discovering the escapism that alcohol provided, it became my crutch. All this said I made it through college and moved to our trendy capital to study Graphic Design. I was a traditional artist at heart, but all the common myths I'd digested about it being a 'poor career choice' sent me in that alternative direction. I graduated the diploma and started working, bouncing from job to job in various cities across Australasia. I made career progress; working for renowned brand and agencies, but steered further from that creative expression I valued most.
The first major pivotal point in my life came in 2018, not long after I'd returned to NZ from seeking inspiration in Canada. I suffered a back injury giving downhill mountain biking a crack, which lead me to the world of yoga. At the time I had no idea the rabbit hole it'd become or how significantly it would change my life, but despite my lifestyle to that point, l'd always had an interest in vitality and growth. Embracing this new world was a substantial shift. So much so that within a few years I resigned from my job and signed up for a yoga teacher training at Raw Wellbeing. Through this training I met some amazing people, established healthy habits and found a grater self-awareness. An awareness of the mind, body, nervous system, and belief systems I’d gathered over the years. This led to a shift in perspective—not only in how I saw the world, but in how I interacted in it.
-
Post teacher training I continued with my own yoga practice, diving deeper into it as a way of life. Alongside this I started exploring other well-being practices and eastern philosophical perspectives. I read books, took workshops and met influential people.
Discovering how these practices and way of living not only improved my well-being, but helped reignite my creativity too, I realised their value. Self-expression is an important part of our hauora (well-being), yet doesn't tend to get the same recognition as other factors. Through all I'd learnt and experienced, I saw an opportunity to guide others back into their natural creative state by sharing this wisdom in a digestible way that all could follow. With that Resonate was born.
