Serpentine Toki Taonga
Serpentine Toki Taonga
70mm High
30mm Wide
13mm Deep
Once used as a tool by tangata whenua, the toki shape is now considered to symbolise strength, courage and determination. However, this said, I share the thoughts of my kaiako that the wearer will always find and place their own significance on their taonga. This particular piece has been carved out of NZ Serpentine—although not nephrite it’s still pounamu and a beautiful kōhatu valued in Māori history.
All taonga I carve comes with a 100% organic cotton bag to keep it safe when not wearing.
*Note: This taonga is authentic Aotearoa kōhatu and has been correctly sourced through acclaimed local Ōtautahi artist/carver; Jon Jeet—founder of the community initiative; Tūhono Taonga, Tūhono Tāngata. For every taonga made an additional is carved and gifted to this cause, helping connect the local community through Mātauranga Māori.
